This ad is from the October 25, 1968 issue of Life Magazine. The copy under the GTO reads, "Dull driving can get to be a habit. Now - aren't you ready to break away?"

This little image came from the web site of a Canada company that handles 60's & 70's GM Muscle Cars, Parts, Sales, Service and Restoration. Look them up in Ontario at 4256 Chesswood Drive, Downsview, Ontario, Canada. There's a blue 1969 GTO convertible in there somewhere.

This car was bought new at Charlie Bell Pontiac in Somerset, Kentucky. The car was found in a barn in 1999 when a bypass was being built. It had been stored there since 1974. He bought it for $4000. It is being restored. A license plate will go on the front that reads DEBBIE'S NIGHTMARE. Debbie is his wife.

For 1969, the fender badge was changed to the letters "GTO" riding on a chrome bar. This car has no hideaway headlamps. Some owners preferred not to get the option. They sure saved themselves the maintenance headaches! The cars with the hidden headlight doors often required repairs.

The Custom S cars had badging on the front portion of the fender. In the grille, it says "PONTIAC". The owner has added a GTO hood to this car. ...looks great with the hood scoops instead of the flat hood that originally came with the car.

Check out the exhaust tips, both are on the left side. Over the years, many cars got non-original exhaust components added. The most common thing that will happen to a stock car with stock exhaust tips is "removal". The stainless tips get discarded when the original exhaust pipes wear out. Then a shop will just "turn down" the ends of the pipes. But these days, reproduction exhaust tips are available from restoration parts vendors. That makes it much easier to put a car back to stock-looking configuration. ...including the original-style stainless exhaust tips. It's owned by Jerry VanSteenburg who wrote in with this comment, "This picture was taken just prior to my purchasing this vehicle. I purchased it in April 2000. I have done some minor restoration and I did replace the exhaust and have the original-style chrome exhaust tips. This is a great car and a GRRRRREAT GTO!!!!!! This car spent the first 25 years of it's life in California"
