Pontiac GTO, that's what we have here. This site also shows you the Pontiac Lemans, Pontiac Tempest, and other classic cars. This one happens to be a GTO convertible. Terry & Sharon James sent in pictures of their red '68. This car was once featured in a musclecar calendar. It also appeared in a book called "Detroit Muscle Cars". It has a 400 cubic inch engine, 4 speed transmission and 138,000 miles. The owners are members of the Heart Of Illinois GTO Club. They bought this car when new, then sold it 5 years later. They located the car again in 1991 and later bought it back. CLICK->

Take three good looks at this 1968 poncho. This car has vacuum-operated hideaway headlamps. The doors on those move downward when you pull the headlight switch. That's another reason the 1968 GTO was selected as the Motor Trend Car Of The Year. This one belongs to Peter Howey, the guy who originally started the GTO Email List. 1968 GTO converbile owned by Svante Franzon from Sweden. It is painted Sonic Blue Effect. Svante tells us more, "I got it from the States in 2005. I started the resto early in 2006. It was mostly in poor condition. It was stored in an old pigfarm house that was condemned for pigs but not for me and my goat. I had to fix a spare cable to get power and light there. It often went out during the work with power tools and the welder. I had a long wait for parts from the US. Often when it arrived, wrong parts, order again, wait for 6 weeks and start all over again. That held me back in time also the cost. I had to add 25% on price of parts including freight, customs cost, and insurance. I got good help from my contacts in USA for new and old parts for the goat. I went over to Carlisle in 2008 and met most of them and packed my trunks with the final parts for my goat. The story of this resto is too long to write here, but it was a TRIP I tell you. This is a red 1968 GTO convertible. The most popular color by far. One reason that the GTO was picked as the Motor Trend Car Of The Year was the attractive dual hood scoops. Another reason the 1968 GTO was favored by Motor Trend magazine is the rubberized Endura front bumper. This styling feature made the car look slick since the bumper and the fenders appeared to be one piece. To demonstrate how durable the new "Endura" bumper was, Pontiac ran TV commercials that showed a guy hitting the rubberized bumper with a baseball bat. The paint on the bumper contained a special elastomer which allows it to flex and bounce back after an impact. Not a GTO, but a nice 1968 Pontiac LeMans convertible that was for sale on the Internet. This one is painted Verdoro Green. It has a parchment (white) interior, probably with black carpet. Every LeMans I have seen has a 350 engine in it. Usually a Tempest will have a 2-barrel 350 or a six cylinder in it. This one has Rally I wheels. Notice the lack of hood scoops on a LeMans. CLICK->
A red car with a white top is a very attractive combination. This '68 GTO has some '69 parts on it. See the '69 Judge stripes? It also has optional fender-mounted cornering lamps, power windows, and air conditioning.
