Red 1966 GTO convertible with top down at a car show. That guy behind the windshield looks a lot like Jim Wangers. He made the Tiger image an important part of Pontiac advertising while working at an ad agency. He coordinated tie-in marketing campaigns with other companies that made cologne, breakfast cereal and shoes. Sales soared during this era. The Pontiac "Wide-Track" era was from 1959 to 1969. Pontiac bosses decided to drop all references to tigers at the end of the 1966 model year. CLICK->
Fontaine Blue 1966 GTO Sport Coupe owned by Ed Wilson from Horace, North Dakota. Ed tells us more, "This is the car I couldn't afford back in the late 60s when I was in High School. My friend's older brother had a similar GTO that I fell in love with and told myself that someday I'd own one. I found this car at a local classic car dealership two years ago. I've put a lot of time into restoring it to the condition it's in now. I love this car and the great performance it delivers!" CLICK->
Ed continues, "My latest modifications: changed it from a points ignition to an Ignitor electronic ignition, and installed a new chrome open-hood scoop with a Ram-Air air cleaner and pan." CLICK->
Here is Kevin Fautsch with his red 1966 GTO race car. Kevin adds, "It has a 67 fiberglass front end. This car is raced on the NHRA tour in Super Gas or Super Street. The motor is a Butler built 541 with a Turbo 400 4.11 rear gear and runs 9.30's @ 143.00 " CLICK->

This is the 1966 GTO Monkeemobile #2. The Monkeemobile was the creation of Los Angeles car customizer Dean Jeffries (not George Barris). Pontiac supplied Jeffries with a 1966 GTO convertible as the base. The car was equipped with the standard 335hp engine and automatic transmission. Two Monkeemobiles were eventually built. One was used for the TV show, then went on tour with the band overseas. After the tour, it was left behind in Australia. The second car pictured here is displayed at car shows and other promotions. This is the #1 1966 GTO Monkeemobile This is the first Monkeemobile which was used for the TV show, went on tour with the band, and was left in Australia. Notice the differences from the previous photo. The grilles are silver, the blower flapper is missing, and the radiator is lower (flush with the front end bubble). The car moved through a bunch of owners before showing up in 1992 at a government foreclosure auction in Puerto Rico. It was being used as a hotel courtesy car. The current owner snapped it up at that auction for the minimum bid of $5,000. No one else at the auction knew what this car was! PICTURE SET CONTINUED ON NEXT PAGE ...
