Nice 1965 LeMans post coupe yellow with Rally II wheels. I don't know what size engine is in this particular car. Often debated by Pontiac restorers is the question of "Which engine originally came in my car". In October of 2007, a friend was wondering if his LeMans came with a 389 from the factory. The question was posed to one of the originators of the GTO idea, Jim Wangers. We asked him this:
"Could anyone have bought a 65 Lemans with a 389?"
His answer was this: "Come on... From the guy who wrote the book, the answer is no...absolutely hell no, could such a car have been bought directly from a Pontiac Dealer and represented as a factory build. Of course there is no way at this late date can you verify what a Dealer might have done once he acquired the vehicle from Pontiac. No, no, no, no, did Pontiac ever build such a car and while I don't want to call anybody out for making such ridiculous claims that's exactly what they are. Answer the question, why would Pontiac "step" on their own product? NOW, remember that in the 1965 model year all GTO options were built off the LeMans so it is more likely that these good folks didn't read the Dealer price sticker or bother to check PHS for verification. If it had a 389 in it, it also had to have the GTO option. There was no other way to get a 389 installed at the factory. - Jim" CLICK->
