Midnight Blue 1965 GTO hardtop owned by Brian Ray from O'Fallon, Illinois. Brian tells us, "I bought it in '94 as a red Chicago area rust bucket that looked good from 50/50. An uncle gave me a 455 in pieces, which I put in the trunk, then drove it cross-country to Utah, with 4.11 gears (never again). After several years and lots of $$s it is roadworthy with the 455, Edelbrock heads, Richmond 6-speed, vintage air, 4-wheel discs, Weld Rodlites, Hotchkis springs, T/A steering box, 12-bolt w/3.08 gears, and more." Montero Red 1965 GTO hardtop owned by Darwin & Patricia Ludi from Chula Vista, California. Darwin tells us, "Patricia and I owned a 1965 Pontiac GTO back in 1965-68. At the time we were just married and I had graduated from college. We raced our GTO in New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, and California. We were sponsored by Scott Pontiac in Las Vegas, New Mexico. When I was not racing, Patricia was racing. We did very well and won many trophies. In 1968 I entered the US Navy and could not afford the GTO so it had to go. Not until 1990 did I find a GTO that was similar to the first car. It took three years of a frame off restoration in 2001 to complete. In 2002 Patricia & I took the car to the GTOAA Nationals in Denver Colorado. We placed 2nd in concourse. Since then the car has only been shown once. It was selected for the San Diego Del Marfair in 2003 to represent the muscle car era of the 1960's. The car was on display with 13 other hand picked cars. The display ran for 3 weeks. We plan to take the car to Michigan for the 2004 nationals in July. The
car will finally return to its origin. Since the 2002 show in Denver we have added Hurst wheels and fixed all the deficiencies noted." CLICK->

Here is Darwin and Patricia Ludi's Montero Red 1965 GTO hardtop being prepared to shoot a commercial to be shown to promote Superbowl XL which aired Feburary 5th, 2006. The GTO represented the NFC while the 1972 Chevelle represented the AFC. These pictures were taken January 17th. CLICK->
For the Superbowl XL commerical shoot, the cars were made to look more alike. That is why stripes were added to the GTO. Don't fret, those are magnetic stripes. CLICK->
The film crew is testing out some of the shots while waiting for darkness. The camera is on a platform that rides on temporary tracks. CLICK->
This was a dramatic Superbowl commercial showing off the two muscle cars. They are blacking out the side and rear glass on both cars with fabric. The GTO got mentioned in a Superbowl news article in the San Diego Union-Tribune here. The drivers are positioned. The GTO has the NFC emblem magnet on the front fender. It has a big "N" with three stars on it. Before the Superbowl, Darwin wrote in to say, "Have not been notified if the shoot will be aired nationally. Cadillac motor division paid for the shoot. They initially wanted two Escalades to be filmed but were convinced otherwise. Because of Cadillac, two GM products were selected instead of a Ford or Mopar. I hope Pontiac steps in and encourages the airing. They promote enough events as it is.
They should step up for this because of the venue. As soon as I hear
something from the production company, I will e-mail you. As it is, it will be aired on the giant screen after the coin toss." CLICK->
The smoke comes on and we start the shoot! Notice that the license plates have been changed to represent the teams that might have eventually played in the Superbowl XL.
