1965 GTO Thom McAn vintage ad has a shoe and a GTO. Marketing man Jim Wangers broke some new ground when he tried to sell more GTO's for Pontiac. He used some clever product tie-ins to enhance the performance image of the GTO. A national retailer was chosen to help promote the GTO. In this print ad, the heel of the shoe is called an "Accelerator Heel"...anything to make the shoe and the car seem more exciting. Since this was a tie-in ad campaign, the Thom McAn stores had GTO-related displays in their store windows. The reference to the Tiger is from the GTO mascot, the tiger. CLICK->
