NEW POST Cameo Ivory 1966 GTO Sport Coupe hardtop owned by Bob and Shyla Edwards from Utica, New York. Bob had this to share, "I've had a love affair with this car for 16 years now. I purchased it in Granada Hills, California in October 1992. I trailed it back to New York when I moved in 1995. I'm the second owner. The first being the recipient of a high school graduation gift to use for college (how lucky!). Being a girl, she never trashed it. It was all there when I came upon it, including all the first-year-for-CA smog equipment still in place. It's originally a 4 bbl, auto car with 3.08 open rear, PS, PB, AC, tinted windshield, floor mounted shifter w/center console, door-edge guards, white-walls and deluxe wheel covers, and, unusually, factory receptacles on the seats for headrests, although the headrest option wasn't checked-off on the option sheet. Options I've added are Tri-Power, 3.55 rear w/Auburn Posi, rear speaker, vacuum gauge, Sun Super Tach, tissue dispenser, stainless steel exhaust tips, Hurst shifter, BFG Radial T/A's (235-60 RR, 215-60 FR), 15" Cragar Street Pro's (older version) w/around 3.5 or 3.75 inch backspacing, Moog convertible rear coil springs and Gabriel air shocks, Although with the convertible rear springs, no air is required in the shocks for the perfect ride height. I also hand-made the tiger dice and a matching throw pillow for the rear seat, where our three year old daughter Grace resides on cruises and loves to yell,'...faster, Daddy!'. The trunk is fully restored and the interior is pretty much done. Future plans include paint, chrome and trim polish, and more engine detailing. I may restore it back to 4 BBL trim with the smog equipment reinstalled, seeing that it's so rare, but for now I'm having way too much fun kicking in the outboards! We have an attached garage with a window in the door leading from the house and I've gotten a kick every time I've walked by that window for the whole time we've lived here! I've had other toys, Harleys, etc., but none of them has held my interest like this. I can see how enthusiasts could consider a classic car a part of the family. I'm definitely obsessed!"

NEW POST Under the hood is a 389ci Tri-Power engine. You can tell from the photo that particular care was taken when restoring all the metal finishes in here. The painted surfaces and natural metals look good.

This is the only 1966 Pontiac GTO to run in Competition on the NASCAR Grand Circuit from 1966 to 1969. This car was originally built by Bobby Allison and Associates. It was raced only twice by Bobby bearing the number 12 and painted this gold and red with the Coca-Cola sponsorship. The car was then sold to HB Bailey of Houston, Texas. He painted the car gold and black and changed the number to 36. It was crashed at Darlington and sold to Roy Tyner of Red Springs, North Carolina. Roy converted the car to a 1967 by changing the rear clip and the front grilles. He painted the car white with red numbers 9 (and sometimes 09). After engine failure the GTO was retired after a total of 33 Grand National Races and 6,576 laps of competition. The car never won a Grand National Race and the highest it finished was 4th. The car was then sold to Herb Houston of Rapseburg, Mayland in 1971. The car was put back together with the help of Smokey Yunick. Its number was changed to 24 and competed in NASCAR late Model Sportsman races at Beltsville Speedway from 1971 until the track closed in 1979. The car made occasional trips to Manassas, VA and Langley Field, VA, two trips to Concord, NC and one trip to Martinsville, VA, but Beltsville was 'home track'.

The car in its native setting. The Track! It is seen here on "The Magic Mile" at New Hampshire International Speedway, New England's largest sports facility and home of professional motorsports in the Northeast. The track is located on Route 106 in Loudon, NH, ten miles northeast of Concord; the state capital. One of the more unique features at NHIS are the 4 helipads located in the infield area adjacent to pit road. The helipads facilitate corporate executives visiting NHIS with helicopter service connecting area general aviation facilities and the speedway.

The engine compartment has some of the typical items seen on a race car of the era. Notice the routing of the heater hose. It does not go to a car heater! No need for that.

The Monkeemobile model was re-issued in 1976 by MPC as Fonzie's Dream Rod as a tie-in to the "Happy Days" TV series. This was our Picture Of The Week for 3/29/98. This kit makes no sense to me at all. The show was set in the 1950's. The car was a 1967 model. Did someone overlook the difference between years? Ron Yoli (Cop980@aol.com), VP of the Pontiac Oakland Club Of Long Island says "Hey Sean, I was looking for a MONKEEMOBILE, and ordered one from a model guy in New Jersey. He sent me the car as an original FONZIES DREAM ROD!! I was flabbergasted! I said, HEY! I wanted the Monkeemobile! However, IT IS the same car!" Thanks to Ron for emailing the image to me!
