Ken Skistimas spotted Monkeemobile #2 and snapped a series of detailed pictures. Ken comments, "Here's a few shots of the #2 Monkeemobile I took at the Elk Grove High School car show in Elk Grove, California. As you can see, it's starting to show its age, but in general is in decent shape for a 40 year old car. After the Elk Grove show, the car is scheduled to undergo a frame up restoration that will be unveiled at SEMA this fall." See that 1969 Judge in the background? Ken snapped a shot of that one too. After these photos, the Monkees car had a frame-off restoration and was in fact seen at SEMA 2006. CLICK->

1966 Monkeemoblie #2, view from the right rear. This is a nice detailed view of how the rear of this car was customized. You can see the cover for the drag chute. George Barris says that the original parachute said "Kellogg's" on it. CLICK->
Close-up of the front grille on the Monkeemobile #2. Those are stock 1966 grille inserts. CLICK->
Looking down the left side of the Monkeemobile #2. The car was sort of designed as a rolling stage for the bandmembers. The interior panels wrap right around to the outside. No side glass here. There are subtle pinstripes on the car too. CLICK->
Here is a treat! Ken has snapped some shots of the interior of the Monkeemobile #2. The dash appears to be gold in color. CLICK->
Here we get to see the seating pattern. This car has four bucket seats and a bench way in back. In the 2006 restoration, there were some changes made. They added speaker pods to both sides. The pods sit on the floor behind these seats with several speakers pointing in all directions. Amps for the speakers are hidden under the rearmost bench seat. CLICK->
George Barris has restored the Monkeemobile #2. He did a lot of work to it including making the hood functional. Ken Skistimas snapped these pictures fresh after the restoration at the Sacramento Autorama car show early in 2007. A lot of company sponsors came together to make this restoration happen. CLICK->
The car looks better than it did in the 1960's. This is a right rear view of the Monkeemobile #2 fresh out of the restoration. They added a modern high power sound system and some video screens inside. CLICK->
Left rear view of the Monkeemobile #2. The car was originally designed to showcase the members of The Monkees band. You might call this a stage on wheels. During the recent restoration, they added a video monitor in the dash. I wonder what the next auto-modifcation fad will be. CLICK->
That is one huge convertible top! Thanks to Ken for the photos of this world famous car. CLICK->
