Vintage picture of a white 1970 GTO hardtop owned by Steven Pike when he was in High School. This was our Picture Of The Week for 1/6/02. Here's a story that Steven included about his GTO: "What happened to the white GTO is kind of a long story but I will try to make it short. I had the car for 12 years of which I raced it on the street and strip for about the first 10 years and entered it in several World of Wheels car shows and won 1st or 2nd every time. I decided to turn it into a full blown show car so we took the car down to the frame and totally customized it. Chromed almost everything we could, replaced every nut and bolt on the car. It was a three year project. I finished the car the 4th year and the last thing I had to do was to install the new rocker moldings. After doing so I decided to drive the car about 4 blocks to my fathers house and keep it in his garage as he had plenty of room and I had a small garage at the time and felt it would be safer at my fathers. When I arrived at my parents house they were not home and I had forgotten my keys so I turned around and drove back to my house to get the keys. I was a block from my house and there was a loud bang the car was lifted into the air and set back down. The drive shaft came out of the trans. and dug into the asphalt lifting the car and destroying the underneath. The rear end was locked up and the car would not move so my buddy and I walked the next block to get my truck and some tools and when we returned the car was gone. Did I mention it was on a hill when we left it! You guessed it, My beautiful GTO had rolled down the hill crossed someone's front yard and slammed into a tree which pushed the rear bumper almost to the back windshield. So ended my show car and my GTO days. I had always missed my GTO and vowed that I would have another one someday and just purchased a 1970 Judge in August of this year. ITS GREAT TO BE BACK!"
