Gold 1967 GTO hardtop owned by John Sullivan. John tells us more, "These shots of my '67 are from a few years back. I had it since '98. It spent most all of its life in Cleveland so the body was in need of some additional repair. I have already replaced trunk/tank and added a freshened up TH-400. I recently rebuilt the engine and have plans to eventually do a frame up resto-mod when I can stand to send her to paint jail. I would like to build a frame up with more modern
underpinnings: aftermarket suspension/wheels/brakes plus a modern
manual transmission."I think his use of the phrase "paint jail" is hilarious. Yet it's a fitting description for what can happen when you give up use of a car to get major work done to it. Take a look at this one. Wrecked red 1967 GTO convertible found on the internet for sale in New Jersey way back in 2001. Here's what the owner posted about the the car: "This is the real thing. Only rusty in condition. Bought from the original owners. Car has sat outside uncovered since 1981. Parked after the front was hit. Some of the options include a 400 HO motor code YZ with 670 heads and the HO exhaust manifolds. Car has power steering, power brakes (drum), air conditioning, power top, power windows, AM/FM radio with reverb and power antenna (antenna is gone). Car had a wood steering wheel - missing. Auto transmission and posi rear. Factory bench seat and column shifter. As far as I know this car is #'s matching. The first part of the VIN 242677B... for decoding. Now if the photos don't scare you maybe I can. This is a rusty rusty rusty poor old GTO with great options. The floor is shot the frame is rusty with big holes and I think on the drivers side is even a lot worst. It would need major repair or a new frame. The dash metal is cut up and rusted out, fire wall is rusted out, and the windshield is ready to fall out as well as the front seat. I remember the transmission cross member falling out on my trailer when the car was picked up. So that is missing. Trunk -- what trunk. Gas tank is there. No rear wheels. This car was mint before the nose was hit. This car will need a complete rebuild. If it can even be rebuilt. A donor car with out rust will be needed. It's a real red car with white interior. Doors are rusted out. Rocker chrome is missing. Speedo and wire harnesses for options are uncut. Car has 106,000 miles. Car is sold as-is. Not running. The passenger door glass and windshield are broken. Both quarter windows, both wings, and the driverside glass are not broken. All power window motors and stuff are untouched and there. The chrome around the back and sides of convertible top is all there. I put a wrench on the alternator and the fan belt broke trying to turn over the motor.
