Owner of this 1968 GTO is Al Santino who says: "This car is Mayfair Maize code "Y". A 5+ year restoration of a completely original car. When I bought the car it was in real good shape, Adult owned, and not abused. But I went ahead and replaced every bolt, bushing, bearing, brake line etc. etc. anyway. I'm down to the convertible weather-stripping and I'm done! Well, you're never really done."

Stanley Kaminski (Lemansguy1968@aol.com) sent in this series of pictures of Dick Cantera's 1968 GTO convertible. As you can see, the car has won a major award from the GTOAA. Photo (c) by Steve Kilmer (GEETOTIGR@aol.com)

Dick's 1968 GTO is all stock. It won the Best of Show/People's Choice at the 1999 GTOAA Nationals in McAfee NJ. Dick drove it to the show from Delaware. Now that's a spotless engine! Photo (c) by Steve Kilmer (GEETOTIGR@aol.com) Here are Sean's book recommendations...

This is an AMAZING photo. You can see the engine components through the hood of Dick's 1968 GTO! The photographer did a camera trick here. He made a double exposure of the hood. Photo (c) by Steve Kilmer (GEETOTIGR@aol.com)

Here is a front view of a mean red 1968 GTO convertible. The owner, Bob, tells us, "I bought this car when I was in high scool and have loved it since!" I love the look of the '68's with these more modern mirrors on them. The chrome door mirrors that came stock with the car were designed from those resembling the 50's and early 60's. The '68 nose treatment was a breakaway styling change, losing a chrome front bumper in favor of a body-colored beak. I believe that for '68, Pontiac should have put mirrors on the car such as the ones seen here. It took Pontiac two more years to update the mirrors in harmony with the updated bodystyle, making them the same color as the car.

Judging from the front fender emblem and the engine size, this may be a 1968 Tempest. Want to buy this one? It is from Shirley who says the car has a 350 V8, chrome wheels, 59,000 miles, red with black interior & top. Let them know you saw the car here at The Ultimate GTO Picture Site.

Looks like Greg Gile from Redmond, Oregon bought himself a convertible. He tells us about it: "Found the car of my dreams! It's a 68 convertible with a 400 std., and 4 speed. Car is
intact, runs, and all numbers match. Contrary to what the pics may show, it needs a lot of work. Many thanks again, as the tech tips I got from you enabled me to know what to look for. Will keep you updated as to how the restoration goes." Notice the non-stock stripe job on the car. The ones on the hood sort of resemble the
paint scheme that the Royal Pontiac dealership was putting on cars in the 60's. See the little "400" painted on the hood snorkel.
