Red 1968 LeMans convertible owned by Greg Simonis from Monona, Wisconsin. Greg comments, "I bought the car 13 years ago as a basket case for $950. It had holes in the trunk floor, both rear quarter panels were shot, the driver's seat and dashpad needed to be redone and the fuel pump leaked. The body has been redone and a new top and interior is coming this summer along with custom 17" rims and tires. It has a 350 with a turbo 400 tranny automatic on the floor converted from a column shifter."

Greg's 1968 LeMans convertible with a 1969 rear decklid spoiler. I don't usually point out problems with people's cars here. But, for the sake of education, I'll point out a common problem with an incorrect part. See how the spoiler doesn't look wide enough to fit on the car the right way? The spoiler installed here is from a hardtop car. It doesn't quite fit because the rear fenders on a convertible are different than a hardtop.

This picture shows the difference beween rear fenders on a convertible (top) and the hardtop (bottom). Yes, I know the bottom is a 1969 hardtop - but they were the same as the 1968 hardtop. The rear fenders on a convertible are wider and sloped to the rear window less than the hardtop fenders. When you put a hardtop spoiler on a convertible, it doesn't quite fit. I hope Greg doesn't mind that we used his car as
an example. It may save some people the expense of buying - and having to return - an incorrect part for their application.

Blue 1968 GTO convertible with a high rise hood scoop. Jay tells us more, "This is Jay with JMS Products Inc. We make a lot of custom aftermarket parts and my uncle happens to own one the baddest GTOs in the country. It is coming out of paint at this time. The car is wild. The motor was built by Jim Butler Performance. It has an Indian Adventures block, Kooks custom headers to 4" X pipe, Hogan custom manifold, 12 way coilovers, 4 piston Willwoods, synchroless 5-speed, and soon to be released JMS Products low profile sheet aluminum flat filter housing for single and dual carb setups. It runs low 9`s making 900 HP on pump gas with a HO 11:1 compression ratio 565 CI motor. Nitrous or a blower would be insanity."

This is what Tracy Lamont's 1968 GTO convertible looked like when Tracy purchased it. It's silver with black stripes. It came from the factory in Aegena Blue Metallic. Tracy tells us more, "I finally found the GTO that I have wanted for years. It is definitely a builder but it has lots of potential. The car has most of the items that were on my laundry list and a few that I could only hope for. The must-have list required that it be a true 68-69 GTO (not a clone), a 4-speed transmission (factory), hideaway headlights, low-rust body, and of course it had to be a convertible. On the wish list was a hood mounted tachometer, Safe-T track rear end and matching numbers. While this car did not have the tach or matching numbers, it did have one extra bonus - it was made 6 miles from where I live. It needs lots of work, and I am enjoying every minute of it. So far I have repaired lots of electrical problems, removed
some huge stickers that the previous owner had applied, tuned it up, replaced the exhaust system, installed original seat belts, and stripped the black paint off the rear bumper. I'm waiting for a new carpet kit and replacement glove box to arrive in the mail. I'm also looking for a new heater core that will be installed before the carpet and pad goes in."

Looks like Tracy has some white seats to go into this 1968 GTO convertible. The rear seat seems to have been recovered at some time in it's life.
