Correctness of Our Specifications

Ultimate Source for Correct Information:

We're working hard to make sure all the stats on this website are correct. According to extensive research, we know we're right. Most books have some errors. At the bottom of this page, you'll see a list of common reference books and why THEY'RE wrong.

If you want to dispute any stats, just leave me an email and we'll research the correct information and add the results to this page.

The UltimateGTO.com Stats Explorer (tm) is a single correct source for information, verified from multiple sources. Unlike printed sources, we add and correct information on this site every day. Printed sources may not have been correct for 10+ years.

Remember that not all items available on the general Pontiac line of cars for a model year were available on the GTO. For example, the GTO was not available in every Pontiac paint color every year. There were a specific smaller set of colors offered for the GTO. Several sources incorrectly show a standard Pontiac paint chip list as the available colors for the GTO. No way.

Thanks to Eric White for helping with vinyl and convertible top letter codes. He is the author of The GTO Association of America's Pontiac GTO/GT-37 Illustrated Identification Guide.

Interior trim code 542 is listed for white vinyl for all white bench with white trim and bucket and for bucket with white, red or green trim. How come the white bench with red or green trim is 544? I think it is an error. (I bet 542 is correct for all)
VIN decoder only talks of "Y" Ventura model, while Data Plate decoder talks of both "Y" Ventura and "Z" Ventura Custom
Talks of both a wide ratio M20 and close-ratio M21 manual transmission. No one else does.
Incorrectly identifies the VIN engine code as K which was corrected to B in a Dealer Service Information Bulletin (#74-I-14) dated 11/12/73. Info from Eric White.
