Vintage picture of Diz Dean and his new Gulfmist Aqua 1974 GTO. This was our Picture Of The Week for 11/23/08. Diz explains, "This was my first new car. I ordered it from Wilt Pontiac in Warren, Ohio. The first year I blew the tranny. The second year I blew the engine. The third year I put in a 428 with trips and raced it. It was then put away for 13 years. In 1989 I started restoring it and the rest is history! It has won popular vote at the GTOAA Nats 3 out of 4 times, it was on the Snap-On Tools 2000 calendar, on two muscle car videos, on the cover of two Pontiac magazines, and has won many trophies. It will turn 50,000 miles this summer. I will be passing it on to one of my sons some day."
After seeing his car on the website, Dean added, "I really appreciate you picking my car for Picture of the Week, but did you have to use this goofy old picture of me?! This was taken at Meander Dragstrip in 1977. It was a small airport so we had to stop racing when the planes took off and landed! Then the car had a 428 with tri-power. Ran 14.50 (every pass) with a sick #1 cylinder."

The pic of this '74 GTO really takes you back to the day, in an instant.
