Blue 1971 Judge clone owned by BJ Benton from Suwanee, Georgia. This was our Picture Of The Week for 11-4-07. It started life as a LeMans in Aztec Gold with a Sandalwood vinyl top and Parchment interior. BJ tells us more, "I bought this GTO Judge Recreation on eBay from a guy in Pennsylvania. It had a frame-off restoration with all NOS parts. It had a 350 2bbl with automatic. It now has the 400 4bbl and TH350 with center console floor shift. The hood tach, rear spoiler, GTO hood and front bumper were added during the restoration, as were the bucket seats. The engine was totally rebuilt with a complete list of performance parts including a fairly aggressive cam. It has new BFG tires, correct Rally II wheels with PMD center caps. It has new SS true dual exhaust with H-Pipe, Flowmasters and correct dual outlet exhaust tips and the original cast iron manifolds. The interior was completely re-done with new headliner, carpet, trim and door panels. It has the original dash which is uncut and the original AM radio. The package tray was also replaced. The suspension was completely redone. The
factory AC has been converted and works great, blowing very cold air. The clock doesn't work but everything else does. The car received all new rubber seals and weather stripping. The trunk is immaculate and there is no sign of rust anywhere in the car. The spare and jack are present. The engine compartment was detailed including all new hoses, belts, etc and the correct air cleaner is present. The differential is not the posi-traction, so it is still a one-wheel-wonder but she lights up the one tire pretty nicely and has a wonderful sound. The exterior paint finish is incredible and she really turns heads. I wish the restoration/recreation had included the correct GTO front fenders so the gap between the front bumper and the fender would be correct. Most folks won't even notice it unless they are true GTO fanatics. The front lower fascia doesn't fit correctly as it is a fiberglass recreation, not the steel. However, the hood is steel. It has 118,000 miles on the odometer, but less than 500 since the restoration. Overall, it is a nice driver and since I didn't pay true Judge pricing for it, I certainly don't mind driving it. My first car was a 71 LeMans in Lucerne Blue with a white painted top, bench seat and 350 2-bbl with automatic. I had to share it with my sister. I have wanted a GTO ever since. If I had somehow managed to keep that LeMans, this is exactly what I would have done to it. I get a lot of thumbs up and waves while driving this car. I can't wait for the shows and drive-ins to start this spring. We'll be on the road every weekend!"
