John McMahan continues to describe the original drawings that hung in a Pontiac dealership for many years, "Have you ever heard of an artist, William Davis? I have several drawings by him. One isn't signed. Looks like the other seven done by "Wm Davis". William Davis did prototype drawings for GM in the late 1960's." This one is definately a LeMans. Looks like William Davis was experimenting with covered headlights. The wraparound ribbed strip under the headlamps became a styling fixture on some Pontiacs for many years. This is a wild-looking grille design which I think resembles a cowcatcher on a train. That's one crazy train. The 1973-75 Grand Am received a vertical grille vent treatment like this, although toned down in scale. This might have been drawn by the same William Davis, who in 2004 was still with GM. There is a William Davis who is now General Motors director of design, midsize trucks. Might be the same guy. Can anyone confirm that?
This looks like an artist's concept of the '78-80 second generation Grand Am front end. Note also the lower portion of the bumper, which is consistent with the look of the 1977-78 Trans Am bumper.
