Silver Preproduction 2005 GTO. About the only big change is the hood scoops. We were told at the 2004 GTOAA International Convention in Pontiac, Michigan that there are three changes for 2005; one, hood scoops, two split dual exhuasts, and 50 more horsepower. Compare this view with a 2004 GTO. There are seven colors available on the 2005 GTO. Two of the 2004 colors were dropped, Barbados Blue and Cosmos Purple. The two new colors are Cyclone Gray and Midnight Blue. Check them out in our Stats Explorer ™.

gtoguy : It still looks like it's miss’in sumthin - but I like the fact that it’s got 400hp, hood scoops, and split exhaust.
denman: Yeah, it needs the recessed grilles off the Autocross to finish it off. Nice to see the split exhausts. Pity it didn't get the quad pipes though. At least the hood scoops don't look tacky (like I thought they would) so I think the package works. I'd drop the rear spoiler if ordering one as IMO the GTO looks better without it.
Johnboy: Looks good. Be nice if the would do the recessed grille, but I'd like to see them make the "GTO" on the grille stand out more, like on the early ones. Really big, so you can see it read from far away. As it is, it just gets lost in the grille.
TriShield: The recessed grilles (and the entire Autocross package) are available for ordering on the red, black and silver 2005 GTOs. It's called the Sport Appearance Package on the option list. The 2005 can be ordered with new 18 inch wheels as well.
Mick: I like the new changes, especially the new power plant! I love the scoops. Maybe add some retro cues -taillights extended into deck-lid, front fender air extractor like a 72, recessed front grilles. How about a ducktail rear spoiler instead of the wing!? DEFINATELY GETTING BETTER! (edited)
lovethegtosandbuicks: Hey, I love the new 2005 GTO. It rocks.
Bruce L.: Now that the 2005 GTOs are only a few months away, I was wondering about the success, or otherwise of the GTOs reintroduction. Apart from providing a LS1 engined RWD car at reasonable price, the car had a few other objectives as well. Save Pontiac from going the Oldsmobile route. Eventually, with the GTO and gradual introduction of new quality cars, move Pontiac up market to become the BMW of the GM family. Bob Lutz said that in one interview I read somewhere. Getting people talking about Pontiacs again, (they sure did that) getting people into Pontiac showrooms and selling them cars, not necessarily GTOs. I understand that the price of the older original GTOs has gone up because of renewed interest/discussion of the brand. The GTO hasn't sold as well as GM thought it would, I know. Apart from the styling, which is not universally popular from what I have read, Pontiac dealers themselves are mostly to blame. High mark ups, some even refusing prospective owners a test drive, and generally treating their prospective customers badly. This won't go down well with European owners and high end Japanese owners, who expect and get good service from their dealers, who may have been thinking of coming back to Pontiac. (edited)
GTO Nutz: Well this is only the regular GTO. The 18inch rims were taken from the Concept, I belive! This is missing the most inportant thing to spice it up - the Autocross Package. Get me a picture of that! Does anyone know where I can find even more 05 Goat Pics? Hey Pontiac bring the planned 07 Goat next year. Y'll see the sales climb because it'll be an all new car and for christ sakes build'em in America! Now people are waiting for the 05 because of the scoops, duals, and LS2 so get some rebates on the 04's and come with some for 05's! Remember I need that Trans Am out again and a RWD Bonny. Bring some more great stuff out! I like the 05 with 18's and Autocross Pack. That really makes scores on my list! Not that 04 and std. 05 are ugly but less graby! People want style these days so bring out the 07 early and wheres my LS7 huh! Yeah 7.0L 450-500 ponies! As I say, Ford and Dodge CYA! (edited)
Cole66GTO: This car is still a mess. I hope the new Mustang gives GM something to really cry about. Makes me sick it still isn't made in this country, but hey if the car is gonna look like this, it's best its not made in the good ole' USA.
65Tempest: The front looks great (the grille is too flush though. But the side profile just looks too plain. It looks just like the other Pontiacs. (edited)
MadgoatGRN69: That new '05 probably costs three times as much as I just got my 69 for. But there's no way I would trade mine for theirs, and mine probably gets 10 times the stares. Pontiac's got only so many chances to get this right, they're slowly getting it now with the scoops and appearance packages, but it's not making my heart pump just yet. Definitely heading the right direction though.
81x11: It may not get as many looks as a '69, but it also has a warranty, and I wouldn't worry about driving it to work everyday like I would a classic goat. The fact that the local men in blue think it's some kind of Cavalier is an added bonus.
unsane37: Thanks for another piece of crap. It looks like a Grand Am. (junk) I LOVE GTO's. Why insult us with this? It looks like a Ford Mustang. They all look the same. Take an old GTO and mix it with modern technology.
NaOH: If I wanted an old GTO with modern technology, I'd just drop an LS1 in it. Of course, people would still hate me because I put a 'Chevy' engine in it. :P For myself, I'm saving my pennies for an '05.
Mikesan: I really like the changes for the '05. But I bought the '04 anyway due to the rebates and dealer willingness to deal on price. Couldn't justify the extra 7+ grand for the '05. Plan to keep this one for 3-4 years and see what comes out. Would really like one in Copper Metallic color and with a decklid spoiler.
Greg: I like the simple changes to the '05. I presently am in the process of purchasing a '04. I'd love to get an '05 for the bigger engine, but the rebates are enticing and the need is here and now. I know some people don't like the smooth style, but I personally enjoy the clean and simple body lines. I can almost see the air move around it! I lived in Europe for seven years, and you can see Opel Vectras all over the place that look like the GTO. Hey, even the police on the Autobahn use them.
powerme: With the types of cars that we have been producing its good to see GM has had the balls to find a country that loves its V8's for a little help. For all you bitching about where the car is made, get over yourself. The American car market has been missing out on what the aussies have been doing for years; muscle cars. If we need to import to get a nudge in the right direction, good! The car looks great as it always did. (edited)
Bismarcker: The 05 GTO like the 04 GTO looks nothing like a muscle car. Still closely resembles a Dodge Stratus in looks. Overall I do really like the 05 GTO as a sports car, but if I were muscle car shopping I would have to purchase a ride that looked like a muscle car. Please mold new body panels!
GetIntoTheNow: With life comes change. Why would Pontiac want to sit in 1969 spinning their wheels? Why try something again just because it succeeded the first time? Why do what someone else has already succeeded at? This car SCREAMS Pontiac, the same way the Goat screamed Pontiac in 1966. If there were an internet in 1969, we would be seeing these same comments, that this car looks like every other car. Bring it home GM.
David: I didn't like the looks of the 2004 GTO. It looked small for a muscle car and to be honest it looked like a girl's car. I like the changes of the 2005. It looks much better, although the pictures can be deceiving.
GODDOG: I am sure this car screams. I am sure this car feels great to drive. But, I am extremely disappointed in the styling of the exterior. When I heard in 2003 the GTO was going to be re-released in '04 I could not wait to see it, hear it, even feel it. But the exterior styling let me down from the get-go. I don't know what they could have done to impress me and many others, but it takes more than putting a modified Grand-Am body on such a beast of internal magnitude. Pontiac needs to go back to the clay model and really try to make GTO fans and owners WANT this car. I won't buy one with it like this. May be harsh, but I know many who agree. I will stick with my '68.
JC04GTO: The '05 is better than the '04. I have a red '04 / 6 speed and love the power, sound, handling, and looks. The split duals and hood scoops do look better than I thought they might. I plan on adding the autocross style grilles, functional ram air (have not decided which one) and maybe some stripes to resemble the '71 GTO (used to own one) to my '04. 400HP on the '05 sounds great also! We're getting closer! (edited)
lil66Goat: I'm happy to read that folks are finally starting to appreciate the styling of the new GTO's. But I have to say I have been EXTREMELY irritated over the past 1 1/2 years listening to all the complaints about the plain and simple styling of the re-released Goats. These folks obviously don't remember that the concept of the original '64 GTO was to take the mainline Tempest LeMans body and drop a ground-pounding 389cid under the hood. Take a look at the '64. The styling ain't all that impressive. But the performance blew the competition away. That was the whole point. And to me, that is what the execs at PMD accomplished with the introduction of the '04. To me, that is the essence of the GTO. And I like it.
WantsToBuy2005: So when will the 2005's be out on the lots? I've been checking Pontiac's website every day for a few weeks now, and they're still showing 2004's.
stoka: You Yanks are so irrational. don't be so clueless about car design. The Monaro / GTO is a great looking car. Unfortunately you won't be satisfied till you've hung all kinds of crap / wings fins scoops ornaments over it. If ya want that why not go back to a Chevy Impala with tail fins?
motorheadmike: So, do you Aussies like your women with uninspiring bodywork as well? ;^)
denman7: Say that to an Aussie woman & see what sort of an answer you'll get. BTW check out Jenifer Hawkins, current Miss Universe if you wanna see how we like our women.
MaroGirl05: The GTO is very disappointing styling-wise, 2004 or 2005.
Suckitstang!: To respond to Cole66GTO, that's just not the point GTO Nutz was making. He was saying that this is a nice car but would be better built in the USA and I agree with him! The Mustangs better not give GM something to cry about. The Mustangs at the track will be the ones crying! HAHA That little 4.6L V8 ain't a match for the LS2 6.0L V8! (edited)
TriShield: I think whining about where the car is assembled is ridiculous. The car should not be built in the USA until GM can demonstrate their operations here are capable of matching or exceeding the quality exuded by their Holden division in Australia. Having driven many GTOs here and Holdens in Sydney, I can attest that they are much better than anything GM makes here for the money. I want the highest quality and best product for my dollar, and right now it's done by GM in Australia. It should stay that way. The redesigned GTO will also be based on Holden's VE Commodore, so it will never be purely US engineered just as the Monaro isn't purely Australian either. When GM (and Ford too) utilizes their global resources, everyone wins.
crash2kill: It looks like a car my mom would buy. Like the 400 horses though. Redo the body. (edited)
Jerry: Thru the years I have owned many muscle cars. Mostly Chevys. Bought the 2005 GTO and it is awesome. Anyone wanting memories with power absolutely should buy one. Cannot be beat on looks, comfort and just plain muscle. I bought this to keep. Will be in my garage forever unless I have an accident. I bought Cyclone Gray and anyone wanting a beautiful color should check this color out.
monza: I live in Australia and own a GTO Monaro with a Harrop supercharger 900hp. I must say the American style front end really looks crap! Take a look at the GTO Monaro an c wot u think? It looks so much bettr u would hav 2 agree?
