Larry turns this one on. Looks like it idles at 1000rpm and this one has Very Low Fuel. The green light in the speedometer dial says MPH. There is a km/h below it. There must be a switch somewhere that allows you to switch between the two.

81X11: 200 MPH Speedo. I sure like that! Remember back in the 80's when even Corvettes had 85 mph speedos?
Ash: Good too see the GTO will get the uperspec Monaro gauges and not the lessr Commodore base model dials. The kph/mph lights are interesting but I've no idea of what the petrol browser button bottom left on the fascia is for. I have never seen a Monaro with this. I'm guessing there may also be a market for the Monaro's 280kph speedos. Fitted to the GTO, it could really scare the unaware if it had mph internals. (edited)
81X11: The fuel button is to release the gas door lid.
beefmalone: Where the hell are the oil pressure & volt gauges???
akav8r: They need to remove/relocate the tiny shift light and add oil pressure, oil temp, and a voltmeter. Let's hope enough people complain that they can get a 'performance oriented' IP for the 2005 model year and beyond. Till then, I guess we'll have to order a few guages from Autometer.
dr dave deluca: I bought a '64 GTO when I got out of the army in the latter part of '64. It had all the bells & whistles including 'vibrasonic sound. Now I'm considering the 2004, but am curious about the computer. Does the 2004 have a performance chip? (edited)
RKHiPerformance: I love the look of the tach & speedo, but I'm astonished that oil pressure and coolant temperature gauges were deemed unnecessary. Who wants to clutter up a $35K new car with add-on aftermarket units?
hboats@iinet.net.au: To RKHiPerformance: A closer look at the pic and you will see the coolant temp is the left hand gauge. There is no oil temp gauge on my Monaro either but it has not caused me any pain. We get climate control air conditioning on our Monaro's. Manual aircon seems a bit old hat! I wish the Monaro had the front supension top spreader. These are really greats autos so enjoy them now they are on the road. GEB MONARO (edited)
81X11: Holden has an optional gauge cluster that mounts on the upper center of the dash on the Monaro HSV cars. WE NEED THAT!700 I saw it on the Holden HSV website. Bet they'll add it to a HiPo GTO GM is sure to come out with before too long.
midlifecrisisbluesband.com: I agree and extend on with hboats said about "no pain" missing them. I personally think full gauge packages are a holdover from the 1940's - 50's that gearheads (I say affectionately, I used to be one) can't let go of. Back in the day, the generators and pumps were much less reliable, cooling systems less efficient, and you needed to monitor these gauges constantly to know that your powertrain was healthy. Today, they're just not necessary, let the system monitor it and hit a dummy light if need be, especially for stock vehicles. If you make some mods that tax the stock systems, go ahead and add a gauge. Also, on some GM cars I've had with multi-function displays (like the GTO has) I could get volts, oil press. and temp if I wanted by hitting some buttons. Do our Oz folks know if the Monaro has this capability? The literature just mentions avg/instant mpg, elapsed time/time to destination, that silly %oil life and a couple other things for the readouts. (By the way, my Impulse Blue/Blue interior/6 speed should be hitting my driveway within 3 or 4 days as of 14Jan04). I ordered it the first day you could in July '03. The wait is killing me!
mikesc5: Dave, stock factory cars don't have performance chips. They are designed for best emissions and good fuel economy. If it had a performance chip from the factory it wouldn't be a performance chip, it would be considered stock. A performance chip would be faster than stock and an aftermarket purchase. (edited)
