Sad looking 1973 GTO found at a junk yard. Someone cut out the front and rear suspension along with most of the front frame. This is the first GTO we have featured that is perched on a forklift.

rgm/thejudge: Someone save this GTO. (edited)
www.wheelsupgoat@aol.com: The forklift operator is your only hope.
bling is dead: That is one big hood.
dave5704@sbcglobal.net: I'd buy it just for the hood.
RayWhite: This car shows VIN: 2D37R3Z122287. The engine code here, 5th digit is R. Who knows what this engine is? Usually GTO's have T for 400 or Y for 455.
RayWhite: I found out that engine code R is 400 2bbl single exhaust. Another non GTO, GTO?
Mr66: It just amazes me that, for the 1973 GTO, this is all that GM's designers could come up with for the 'new' 5mph-impact bumper. Look at this monstrous thing, then look at the Firebirds, Mustangs, and so on. What's the deal? I myself wouldn't have bought one of these cars- between the gas crunch and the fact that this car is huge, and then that battering ram protruding out front. Sporty? Fast? Or even fast-looking? GM really had it in for the GTO.
timster: The story is that the 73 Grand Am design was to be for the GTO, but got the ax by some big shot. The front end (which had the latest version of a flexible Endura-like nose piece) was very distinctive for the Grand Am, and would have made a real style statement for the GTO; ditto the Grand Prix cockpit interior that came with the G/A. The GTO was on the outs in '73, and PMD was trying to get into the 'European touring car' niche with the Grand Am which came in 2-and 4-door styles. Too bad for us die-hard Goat fans. Imagine a GTO looking like that '73 G/A, cockpit interior, and SuperDuty 455 that they promised! I do like my own '73 GTO, in spite of the above - and in spite of my good friend Jim Wangers who claimed it the least favorite year of his.
Mr66: Thanks for the interesting info & insight, timster. Makes a little more sense now. Poor GTO. (And let us all remember what the Ford Mustangs evolved into, 1973-1978)
sid: Beauty is in tHe Eye of the beholder!! Besides YOU CAN nOT set a BEER on the front Bumper of any Other Year GTO!! Plus it was the Best handling of the Original GTOs. Besides if bump into somthin in a 1964-1972 GTO it gona hurt, in a 1973-its just OOps....Like timster said, the Grand Am rained on the GTOs parade. A 1973 GTO with A GA nose, SD 455, etc...Would have been a truely great(er) car......As for Mustangs, 1974 & Later Yeah. But 1973 was still a cool MustanG, last of the bIg ones........! My TwO CentS.......SiD
Wally: As far as the 400 2bbl. One of the salesman at dealership where I worked had a Lemans Sport with 400 4bbl, dual exhaust, turbo 400, 323 posi. He sold it and wanted to get another one just like it but it was later in the model year, and he had to order the GTO option to get the duals & 4bbl engine. (the one I bought after HS graduation) GM did a lot of goofy stuff around this time with engine combinations & rear axle ratio availability. Can't say for sure, but if the car is a true GTO (option) and came with a 2 bbl carb. It might bee a California or 'high altitude' car. By the way, I still have the Hi Perf CARS magazine with the smokin 73 GTO on the cover. Well worn... I'll bet I read that thing a hundred times, a lot of Pontiac history in that issue.
