Kev Staalesen: What a tough time. Did you know that the 1972 GTO was a direct leftover from 71 as a result of the GM labor strikes? Yep, it's true. Minimal changes were made to the GTO just to make it unique to 72.. and this was also the last year non-federally mandated 5mph impact bumpers. And the word "emissions" is just being introduced to the average motorhead. The factory performance of the classic big block engine will now be suffocated for quite a few years to come, to help combat SMOG.. and not to mention the gas shortages that would soon follow in 1973.
