Carousel Red 1969 GTO hardtop owned by David Dietrich from San Antonio, Texas. This one has fixed headlights and does not seem to have headrests. David shares this story, "I got this project back in 1999. The previous owner swore up and down it was a Judge ... but things didn't add up. It had weak trunk lid springs, 4-wheel drum brakes, no actual Ram Air setup, etc. After running the numbers, I found out that it was produced as a plain GTO. The original paint color was Verdoro Green. So, after talking to the previous owner, I got him to knock about $2500 off his asking price. Sweet deal! Well, the guy's brother was my boss, who went with me up to Dallas get the car. My boss was going to drive to Waco, and we'd switch vehicles (we'd taken my 1995 Toyota 4x4 with A/C!). Well, we pulled onto the road, and my boss decided to have a little fun with her. He leaned into the throttle, and I watched as the rear tire started to bounce. Then ... BANG! Clank, clank, clank. He blew out the rear end ... fragged the spider gears. We had to put her on a trailer and tow her back to San Antonio with my Toyota! I found a rear end out of a 1968 Lemans, and she was back on the road. I've repaired some of her wiring 'issues.' She's a work-in-progress. Money doesn't grow on trees, after all, though I wish it did!"

Rick Zinya: I'd make the guy who broke the rearend pay for the replacement for goofing off in a car that belongs to someone else.
