Orange 1968 GTO hardtop with a black vinyl top. Check out the front license plate on this one. Pontiac created a new rubber/plastic material called Endura to mold the front bumper of the GTO in 1968. This material could be painted body color. It has a 'memory' and would return to it's original shape in a few minutes. It is fire, heat, solvent resistant. If you want mix up some Endura in your basement, you will need acrylonitrule, butadiene, and styrene. How do you paint it? Back in 1968 Pontiac developed a special paint that was sprayed into the mold used to create the bumper. This paint stuck to the Endura when it was injected into the mold. Great, but how do you paint it now-a-days? You must add a flex agent (Elastomer) to the paint to allow it to flex with the Endura. The flex agent will eventually get hard after five or so years and crack. When it cracks, borrow a crayon from your kids (same color as your paint) and press it into the cracks.

California Dreaming : I had one like that. I proposed to my wife in that car. She was surprised. She thought I had been saving all my money to buy a hood tach for the car. But I was saving up money for a wedding ring!
MARY CARROLL : I once owned a 1968 Goat. Raced it in South Dakota. 4 speed, bored and stroked twice. When my husband passed in 1981, my Brother-inlaw sold it and I was so mad. Wish I still had that car. Would like to own another one. G-GAS T-TIRES-O-OIL
Nugroho Jati : I am writing this only to share my story about Pontiac GTO. In Indonesia, finding American muscle cars is hard and finding a '68 GTO is imposible. I believe it was in 1987 when I saw an abandoned '68 GTO Hardtop in a garage. The car sat on flat tires with no engine and transmission in it, but still had GTO badges intact. I stopped by many times and asked, but failed to bring it home as it was never intended to be sold. It was in 1994 when I saw a man driving the car painted in beige. I again made sure that it was the same GTO and the owner confirmed it was the same one as he actually inheired it from his father. I again asked whether his ride was for sale. He just smiled and drove away (He was even reluctant to trade a business card with me). It unfortunately would be the last time the GTO seen in the city. I cannot forget that experience. To me it was like seeing a unicorn. (edited)
Keith: This car is exactly like ours. Didn't think there were too many ordered with black top. We loved this car and burned the Uniroyal Fastracks off in 9,000 miles. What a great muscle car. My wife was pregnant with my first child Todd and she had trouble shifting to reverse - 8 months pregnant. (edited)
GTO Mike: My first car was a 1968 GTO. It was bright red with a black vinyl top, 4 speed, 400 big block, positraction. I bought it in 1978 and goddamn was it fun. I spent umpteen hours making sure my car was the hottest muscle car in town. I eventually had to sell it, but dream about it now and then.
dusty68gto: Hey gto mike, Pontiac didn't make a big block or small block - IT'S JUST PONTIAC!
bamakes@hotmail.com: I am restoring a 68 gto & really like this color. Is it a factory color? Do you know the paint code or which orange it is? Thanks, Mike in Bama
