hiprogerr: Is this car still around? Did Don post it? One of my all time favorites. Where is this car now? (edited)
hotrodjim: Are you sure it is a 65? It looks like a 66 or 67. (You're right! Ed.)
hiprogerr: This is the second Funny Car out of the Gay Pontiac racing shop. Built by Jay Howell & is the '66-'67 car. Is it still around? Beautiful car.
Andy Keasberry - "Omygato": I own a '65 GTO originally purchased from Don Gay Pontiac in Kansas City, and it don't look like dat!
ltchapnick @yahoo.com: I have a picture of this car at a drag strip in VA. I have a 65 GTO and I am a GTO nut. I own a mechanic shop called Larrys Car Care and my office is full of GTO stuff. My shop is about 50 miles from Gay Pontiac and I have met Don Gay and raced my car against his kid's cars. The Gay family owns half of Houston Raceway Park.
Mike M: It's a 1966 GTO, not a 1965.
hiproger: Yes, of course, this is the second F/C that Gay Pontiac campaigned & was indeed a '66 model GTO & probably one of the most beautiful F/C's of that era. I talked with Don on 1/06/05 and he has no idea where these early cars are. He assumed they were destroyed. A real shame 'cause I loved them.
grumpaharley: Two of the Don Gay funny cars were bought by Dick Stokes of Chicago - a 65 GTO and a 68 Firebird. They were raced under the name of The Blue Bandit. They were raced at U.S. 30, Indiana and Union Grove, Wisconsin.
Ralphie: R.I.P. Don, one of the GREAT Pontiac Drag Racers.
R. Sabatini: Don passed away just this past Saturday (June 30, 2007), and I will always remember him as a great competitor, and the owner of one of the finest dealerships I have ever been associated with. Since I was 17, I have been purchasing all my Pontiacs and GMC's from him. When I ordered my '79 T/A (without A/C), he never once hesitated to follow through for me. It was his competitive nature that allowed him to understand what I was going to do with the car!
The Lauck Family Texas: Adios Don...My family will always remember the good old days of Drag Racing. You were one of the best...Thanks for great memories!
sailing now: That was the first all tube chassis car I built. The Gay's called me several months after taking delivery to say 'thanks, it's the best car we've ever raced'. Pretty humbling to a 24 year old kid who was cutting his teeth in the chassis business.
hartma69: Sean, I know where the 66 Stokes + Marinan / Don Gay car is! It has not been destroyed and is in currently stored for hopes of Nostalgia racing it the future! The owner is all Pontiac! He's also my brother!
hartma69: Sean, Is there anyway you could get 'sailing now' in touch with me. I have contacted Don Gay Jr., I think the car is going to be returned to It's form as Don Gay ran it!
Bad Goat II: Would love to see a pic of this car lined up against Arnie Beswicks 66 GTO funny car.
