Gold 1964 GTO hardtop (picture #2) owned by John Waters. The first year of the GTO was a fairly plain, boxy bodystyle. Pontiac chose to add hood scoops (among other things) to the Tempest model to make it a GTO. The hood scoops were not functional, just chrome ornaments.

Interior Color: gold tan
Owner: John Waters ( )

TA Mann: We used to race these in dirt track races in the late 70's. I had a Tempest 4-door that would really run fast in the pack. I had a big truck radiator in it, and a 455 engine. The Tempest won many races because it was more agile than the others. Mine was always a bright yellow color. We went through a lot of front ends in those days. I ran two races with substitute suspension parts from a John Deere tractor. After that, I painted the Tempest yellow and green! ...just like John Deere would have. The only thing I still have left from my dirt track Tempest car is a shelf full of trophies and a John Deere-colored racing helmet.
