Updated 4/11/09 Pontiac Motor Division dealer code list.
This is a growing collection of all the
sales Zones and Dealer Codes that were being used between 1964 and
1974. If you have the Zone and Dealer Code numbers from your car's
paperwork, you can use this list to get the address of the dealer!
We also have some extra information about the dealers in some cases.
Sometimes people will tell me what the dealer name changed
to
over the years and where a dealer relocated. There is no
other published collection of this information, although if you need
to know an individual code, Pontiac Historic Services will supply it
for a fee.

laid out on it. The map is based on research I have
done while putting together this document. The map is nearly
complete. Note how most of the Zones cover more than one state. |

Was in operation 1948 - 1981. They also serviced the last GTO
JUDGE CONVERTIBLE

time to time. It was a '71 white with white top and white bucket seat
interior.
This car was
sold new by March Pontiac in Ardmore, Pa and it belonged to a DR. Tom
Lane. He had the
letter from Pontiac verifying that it was the 17th and last Judge
convertible ever to be
built. Anyone with any more information on this car please

How to interpret the codes:

If your code is 309-079, it breaks down like this...
3...... Pontiac Region Code. Sometimes this "3" is
omitted.
09..... Zone code (Cincinnati Zone)
079... Dealer Code (Burnett Pontiac)

By 1990, because of Zone Office consolidations and other GM Divisional changes, these old Dealer numbers were abandoned and a new system had been installed.
Where to find these codes:

On a broadcast sheet (build sheet) - Look at the lower left corner. On a 1968 car, the first number we need is clearly in the box labeled ZONE. Mine said "24". The Dealer number is in the box labeled DEALER right next to the first box. Mine was "031". The dealer name and address was right next to those boxes. My car was built at the Fremont, California plant. I'm curious if all the plants had the same build sheet layout?

Bill Ondocsin (OPE28@aol.com) says sometimes
you can find a Protecto plate still in the original "Owner
protection plan and new vehicle warranty" book. The
original dealer's plate imprint is located right under the protecto
plate. These imprints are put in the book just like the old
credit card machines would do it. When the car is serviced,
another imprint is added to the book. The dealer imprints in
these books should be pretty authentic. The Zone and Dealer
code appears as a 5 digit number in the upper left corner of the
imprint.

protecto plates being attached to the rear of the warranty book. The
dealer info is stamped just below the plate.

This one was
sent in by Jack Niemi. The photo shows the metal plate and also
some paperwork which reveals other information. You can see the
name and address of the selling dealer. Just above that address
is the zone and dealer code for Hansen Pontiac. Zone 23, dealer
number 163.
"Mysteries to be solved" section:

Some people are giving me three digit zone codes instead of the usual two digits. Now we know why. The few three digit zone codes I have seen usually start with a "3".
John Hugentober has:

He says: "My dealer code says 309 079. There is another number
on the sheet that is some other code and it is 022. Don't know

3/20/98 John Schuh (Framair@aol.com) helps us solve a little more of the mystery...
For 1968..'A' Bodies (GTO, LeMans,etc)...the Fremont Broadcast Sheet had a little more info than those built in Pontiac, Michigan. The big difference is the Dealer Information. Pontiac, Michigan's Broadcast sheets show the codes but not the dealer name and address. Same with the 'F' Bodies. There was no dealer info on the Broadcast sheet for 1967 through 1969.
As for the confusion with the Zone/Dealer Codes... John says the following:

WHERE TO FIND A BROADCAST SHEET:
===============================
The Body Broadcast Sheet was used in the assembly plant as a way for the line worker to easily recognize which component, accessory, engine, etc. to put on each vehicle. Once the car was complete, there was no other purpose for this sheet so, it usually was not left with the car.
I have found though, that MOST '68's built at the Lordstown, OH plant will have at least one (sometimes 4) full or partial B'Cast Sheets still within the car (provided that the car was never restored). Also, its not uncommon to find a Broadcast Sheet in your car for the car built BEFORE yours. Remember, to the line worker, this was just a piece of paper!
Common locations for body Broadcast sheet:
* Under rear seat (lower half)
*
Under rear seat (upper half), sometimes stuck in springs
* Between track assembly and seat assembly on passenger-side front
seat
* Under the carpet underlayment (sound
deadener), passenger floor pan
* Between the seat
covers and the seat cushion. Only look if cover is bad!
* Between gas tank and trunk floorpan
* Behind door
trim panels
* Behind rear quarter trim panels,
especially on convertibles
* Under the instrument
panel pad (usually only partial)
ONE OTHER TIP: If and when you DO find the broadcast sheet, handle with care as it is usually very brittle. Some found under the sound deadener are actually 'bonded' to the oil-based underlayment, so keep the whole thing, its still readable.
Used to find them UNDER the rear seat covers on '64's. Also, 68-72 I seemed to find them under the carpet or sound deadener, usually VERY impregnanted with oil from the sound-deadener.
Look under the rear seat in the springs. You may even find one in your car for the car built just before yours (a common occurance). It might be under the carpet.
ANOTHER PLACE TO LOOK FOR CODES:

The Zone & Dealer code is usually (but not always) listed on the Window Sticker. Look for a set of numbers typed along the bottom or top edge. They will be in the form XX-XXX

unusual build sheet. The car was ordered from Japan through a
PX for delivery upon the serviceman's return to to the USA.
The build sheet has 2 zones and dealer codes. One is labeled
"ship to". The ship to label is tag 1, zone 2 dealer
415. This is Myrtle Motors Corp., 61-20 Fresh Pond Rd.,
Maspeth, NY. The other set of data is zone 79, dealer 001.
I believe this is for G.M. Overseas Distributors, 767 Fifth
Ave. New York, NY. From the original owner, I found that he had
picked the car up at Myrtle Motors upon his discharge from the
service.
DUPLICATE DEALER CODES added 9/00
======================
It is possible to have one dealer name with two codes. Tom
Fiehrer (fiehrer@choice.net) of Fiehrer Motors, Inc. fills us in on
this. He says:
"A dealer's code can change even if
there has not been a name change. This occurs when the dealer
principal named on paragraph three of the franchise agreement
changes."
ZONE STOCK added 4/09
===========
Pontiac produced numerous builds for Zone Stock, cars that were shipped to Storage Lots within each Zone for subsequent sale to a retail Dealer on a first come, first served basis. These cars sat unused for days, weeks, even months before purchase by a Dealer. Not to be confused with Company Cars that also came thru the Zone but were used by Zone employees and later sold at steep discount to a Dealer. These Zone Storage Lots were always identified by a "99*" code as the "Dealer No.". There were likely multiple locations in each Zone.
