The condition of a particular car is the most important factor in a car's value. You'll see cars advertised as "perfect", but the term "perfect" does mean different things to different people. In high school, my idea of a "perfect" car was one that was simply running. Consider what condition you are shopping for...
1 flawless original car or professional frame-off restoration 2 original unaltered car with non-perfect paint 3 nice looker with low miles & no visible rust 4 has a few problems, interior wear, miles * 5 needs body, engine, interior, rust repair 6 parts car with damage and parts missing * Note that most cars will fall into this category, number 4
Figure out what options you want. Cars with more options cost more money.
Add a little for A/C. Add more for a Ram Air car or Tri-Power. Add more for a (real documented) Judge. Add several hundred for a convertible. Add a little for documentation showing regular oil changes, etc. Deduct for extensive trunk floor rustout. Deduct a substantial amount for non-original type engine or trans. Deduct a little for GTOs made after 1972. Deduct an appropriate amount for missing parts or for a car that's not running. Deduct a LOT if the GTO data plate/VIN proves to be a LeMans in disguise. Deduct for paint colors you dislike. Really!

Way back in 2001, I looked at the Hemmings.com web site and searched for cars of all years. Here is what I found on that particular day. While the prices are no longer current, you can see the relative differences in the highs and lows.
