This is the cover of a 1973 LeMans dealer brochure. It's a tri-fold document which shows off many of the options on the 1973 LeMans including the GTO! On the cover is this Florentine Red 1973 LeMans 4-door sedan. Look - it still says the LeMans is a "mid-sized car." Did you ever see these up close? They are huge! Check out the sizes of all the GTOs using our Stats Explorer(TM). The 1973 was the longest and widest. My childhood friend had a station wagon like this. It was light green. Pretty sure it shared the same pontoon bodysides as this car. Their wagon resembled this car, except in Slate Green. CLICK->
Page 2 shows the GTO option on the 1973 LeMans. The text says, "Now, LeMans comes pretty well equipped. But that doesn't mean that you can't add more. The list of available gear is very complete. For example. You can turn the LeMans into Pontiac's legendary GTO. Just by ordering the GTO package. You get a scooped hood, blacked-out grille, firm suspension, wide tires and a lot of peformance." The next pages in the foldout contain this Valencia Gold 1973 LeMans with the Saddle interior. CLICK->
Another page shows the huge bench seat that comes standard in the 1973 LeMans. The use of seat belts was optional in 1973. They were, however, useful in keeping your butt planted during hard turns in these cars. CLICK->
The back of the brochure shows some "Facts and Figures" as well as a Porcelain Blue 1973 LeMans with a blue vinyl top. 1973 was the year of the bumper and here you can see the shock suppression gismo that connects the bumper to the frame. The individual parts of it have been painted for illustration purposes only. Ever jack one of these up from the bumper? It takes a day or so for the bumper to return to its orignal position after lifting the car with it. 1973 was the only year that the sunroof was an option on the GTO. The list of exterior colors is for the LeMans. The GTO was offered in less colors. CLICK->
Gold 1973 LeMans Sport Coupe owned by Gene Axtell from Folsom, California. Gene tells us about his GTO, "I am the original owner. I purchased in November 1973. The car has been in a garage almost its entire life. The paint, complete interior, engine, trans, etc. are all matching. I have nearly all the parts swapped out including original wheels and spare. Car has 125k miles and I've put every one of them on the car. I just rebuilt all the running gear and put it back on the street in April 2005. Now I'm enjoying driving it and showing it." CLICK->
This is a wacky view. The color saturation and brightness are turned up for an interesting photo effect. Gold 1973 LeMans Sport Coupe right side view. CLICK->

Valencia Gold 1973 GTO Sport Coupe, left rear view. That is one unusual spoiler - not sure what it's from. Does anyone recognize it? Is it a rare factory prototype? Something from Cal-Custom? From J.C. Whitney? Is it homemade? If you know, please post a comment in the "comments" section, below. CLICK->
