Phantom Black preproduction 2005 GTO with the Autocross trim option package, rear view. There are vent louvers behind the front wheels and above the dual exhaust splitters. This package makes it a little more visually obvious that the car is called "GTO". See the big letters that are moulded into the rear bumper area?

Interior Color: black
Visible Options: preproduction, autocross body panels, sport appearance package, spoiler

Rich Knapp: I see it has GTO on trunk? I thought it was to say Pontiac there and GTO on the valence?
Jonathan: Get rid of the spoiler and that's a pretty decent looking car IMO. Or if they insist on putting a spoiler, put one like the 04 Grand Prix has.
Shea: The words GTO are cleary pointed out throughout the body. It's kind of like saying "This is a GTO not another Grand Am". Other than the performance package, the two could easily be confused. Please change the new GTO body style and bring back the Trans Am too. Perhaps the GTO could be a 2 seater sports car similar to the Viper and Corvette.
GTO Nutz: This is just plain sweet. I wish the people bitching about styling would shut up! We got your dual tips out back and hood scoops! This car is about being simply styled which is what I want. A sleeper - this sport package takes care of that. By today's standards it's still a sleeper even with the Sport Package. It's about power and smooth styling not about far-out looks and little 4 banger power plants. Do you know GTO was based on Grandma's Tempest! It came in a wagon with a Trophy 4 in 1963 for Christ sakes! Ever since we got a car with a V8 I loved driving because of the grrrr and it just sounds good! That's American not little 4 bangers. We need more V8 GM cars and they're off to a good start! This is the way America should be.
Shea: I'm not going to lie this car is sweet in performance and yeah it's a sleeper but I would love to see a new design. I personally love Pontiac and I'm the proud owner of a '68 GTO and '94 Firebird. I also have to admit I have a knack for Corvettes. I own a '69 Stingray convertible. I'm old school at heart and I'm 22. I wouldn't be caught dead behind the wheel of some rice burner. I would love to see more American Muscle out there, but let's do it with a certain grace, style and dignity that turns people's heads. (edited)
TriShield: Shea, the stock GTO is one of the most handsome, graceful and dignified Pontiacs to appear in decades. If you hadn't noticed, recent Pontiacs have all been terrible looking cars with striped lenses, ultra cheap looking chrome wheels, tacky ribbed body styling, and some of the worst interiors ever sold anywhere. We finally receive a Pontiac that addresses all these grievances, and everyone seems to loathe it. It's absolutely ridiculous and the fact that it's motivated GM to offer this horrific body kit disturbs me.
sealaw@attglobal.net: I have owned the Australian version of this car, a GM 'Monaro' for a week in the dark grey metallic with black leather interior. It is great in every respect - which is what you'd expect a buyer to say anyway. Bought it by chance - took my 15 month old car for service, saw this which had just arrived off the delivery truck, went for a test drive and bought it immediately, though I had to write on the order 'subject to wife's approval'. The dealer laughed, but she approved! The rear spoiler is an option here which I didn't get as I think it spoils the rear look of the car which has a stylish finish. Have done two long trips on the freeway (legal limit here 70 mph but cruising at 75 - 80mph). It is comfortable, good driver support and drives well with tons of power for acceleration. Engine barely working at 70 - 80mph, but produces a great V8 sound (our noise restrictions mean we don't get the full roar you get in the US). Car has the hood scoops and dual exhaust and is a real head turner, getting a lot of questions about what it is like to drive - and a lot of favourable comments about how good it looks - including one from an elderly Italian who said - looks good for a GM car! Now I have to take it to work to stop my wife driving it!
