Peter tells this story, "I bought this car late 2007 to cruise around in while I restore my 68 GTO convertible. As my wife predicted, I became a little over zealous with this one and started pumping more money than I had planned into it. My biggest (and most worthwhile) expense was a new 455 built by the one and only Donnie Miles. It started as a stock rebuild that was to replace the tired 400 that was in the car. One thing lead to another and the next thing you know, we had built a very stock looking but heavily cammed and ported 500+ H.P. beast. With only a few hundred miles on the new motor, I decided that enough was enough and recently sold the car to a soldier who just got back from Afghanistan. Needless to say, I lost more than a few dollars on the deal but I am glad that a deserving soldier now owns my pride and joy. I will miss the cruises I took with my 4 and 6 year old children (my 6 year old was heart broken when it sold) but I plan on making new memories with the convertible."

This 68 has its original drivetrain, interior, and body. Since purchasing in Oct 2009, it's had a suspension overhaul, new exhaust, and engine rebuild. It has a nice option package including factory AC, PW, PS, PB, AM/FM, and is PHS documented. It was originally Verdoro Green. The third owner painted it white in the early 80s and put a Judge stripe on it. I'm the 4th owner. The only mods so far are a Mallory distributor and a valve job, so it runs on pump gas."

Craig shares, "These are photos of my finished GTO resto-rod. When I first purchased the car in September 2008 from Paul's Rods & Restos in Deer Park NY, the car was fully restored. The car is black with a white interior. It was equipped with the original motor, a 400 Turbo Rally II 400-350 YS block with matching numbers. The car was an automatic. Paul's does excellent bodywork, for a black car, it's straight as an arrow, and I receive many compliments. After driving the car a few times, I realized that this car drove like a '68 car. It's poor handling felt like it drifted all over the road. This was not the same dejavu feeling of my younger days, riding down the turnpike in my 4-speed, Ram Air I - 68 GTO (that they only produced 757 cars) that I was forced to sell upon entering the Army. I decided to make this car into a Resto-Rod, since Pontiac made so many of these hardtop automatics (39,215 to be exact). The first change was to install a 240-watt AM/FM direct I-pod kit with the original Pontiac face. Then I had S/P Classics install a 5-speed custom TK0600 Tremec transmission, and a Moser 12-bolt rear end with 373 gears with 4-wheel disc brakes. I was now on a mission, had the engine changed to a 400 motor with 463 Stroker, and Ram Air pot. When I then changed the headers to Hedman 3" exhaust, the car was driving better. For safety, changed the steering box, and changed the gas shocks with Hotchkis sway bars. Now there was no stopping me, I changed the wheels to red line Cooper Radial diamond back tires with S/S Cragar 7" 215-R15 on the front and 8" 275-R15 on the rear. A Diesel Mechanic by trade, I left the changes up to the experts. I had the engine done by S/K of Lindenhurst, NY and S/P Classics of Amityville NY, performed the rest of the work. Now, Steve and Pete are not only my mechanics, but we've become good friends. Every Saturday about twenty of us, get together, reminisce, talk about cars and eat pizza. The car was finished by February 2009. Now the car drives like a dream at 70mph at 2,200rpms, it drives as straight as an arrow and is updated to a car of the 90's. I enjoy driving this car and entering it in car shows, this is definitely a thumbs up car."
